Aerial Yoga Classes Are Swinging!

I’m often blogging recipes, or facts about Spirit Animals. Today is all about Aerial Yoga. This amazingly frighteningly fun way to workout. Yes, I said frightening, because I know how scary and “dangerous” it can look, especially when you watch what the Kids; The Gypsy Tribe Dakini’s, in the Aerial Architecture©™ classes are doing. What they are learning, is Cirque type moves, and that is what they are training for. Whether they stick with it throughout life as a practice or a profession, we focus on safety, form and execution of movement.

These principles are also applied in adult classes, the result being a challenging class where you feel safe and in control, yet fun and lighthearted.

Turning Things Around

Ending Bad Situations by Manifesting The Truth

Reality is not an illusion, but the illusion of reality is real.
What do I mean by this?
What we surround ourselves with, becomes our reality. Reality and truth, in turn, can only be truly judged, when not only our 5 senses are active, but more importantly, our sixth sense.
The Truth can only be gauged by how many senses become awakened when presented with a specific situation.

If you only rely on television and limited resources for your information you are only using two senses, sight and sound; that’s not much of an experience. You need to delve further into the situation to use as many senses as possible to get a better hold on information. Only then can you truly judge the situation. Everything is hearsay until you can fully experience with all five, and for some of us, all six senses. Look hard for the truth, it’s often hidden under a pack of lies.

Choosing your Path

How do you know which path to choose? Often times we don’t know, we just blindly go forward trusting nothing and everything and taking things as they come, good or bad. Sometimes we feel the right path, through our intuition, and still, situations may be difficult. Sometimes our intuition is correct, and the choices we made have clearly resolved the situation for the better. These are subconscious choices, choices we often have no control over.


Why it is necessary sometimes.
That sounds ridiculous, but as I’ve often said, you can’t turn the other cheek, because the other cheek gets slapped, and you can’t fight fire with fire, it just creates more chaos. You fight fire with water, and put it out.
This is where the anger everyone tells you to “ let go” should be released. Throw something, yell, cry, call the person you’re pissed at and tell them what you think RELEASE IT ALL, and move on. There is no shame in calling out a toxic person who is hurting you. In fact, that’s how you take away their power, you extinguish it with the truth. This is when the choice of anger comes from self love, and the instinct to protect oneself and those you love. This is good anger, this is necessary anger, this is Shiva Kali Power. The Destroyers. They destroy the bad to let the good in.
For those of us who have this purpose in life, to bring out the worst in people, it is to destroy the bad, and make way for the good. Read the story of Kali FromTemple Purohit, here.
You will see the good and bad and why we need people around us in bad times to help balance us out, stand up with us and have our back. Raw anger is one of our purest forms, it’s just as pure as our divinity. The difference is a very fine line, and depends on how much control we are able to hold on to in the face of anger, especially coming from a place of abuse, or destruction. It needs to end. Abuse and destruction are more like a downward spiral made of chains. When you feel you can’t get out of the cycle, the chains grow stronger and take you down further. You have to completely sever a link, in order to get out of the cycle.
Anger comes from being pushed to far. The Buddha states, “holding on to anger is like holding a hot coal and expecting the other person to get burned.” Do not let the anger go blindly, if you do, you will send angry vibrations out into the world to create chaos. Focus the anger, and release, properly, it with as much force as it came at you. This may sound harsh, but if you re looking to break a link on the chain of destruction, it’s a necessity.


Happiness is not a choice, but a reward.
We all would like to choose happiness, but we can’t. It’s actually out of our control much of the time. If we simplify our lives, stay away from social media, news, politics, religion and other people we are usually at peace. We find some peace doing the things we love, whether it be reading, yoga, painting, listening to or playing music, riding a motorcycle, or cooking a meal, we all have our active meditations, designed to bring us to a happier state, but true happiness is a reward. True happiness comes from extreme self love and self confidence. If you choose to love yourself enough, and are confident in your worth, you can end your bad situations and emerge renewed, released and rewarded with happiness. This is a conscious choice we do have control over.Cut toxic people out of your life. Cut toxic habits out of your life. Speak up, speak out, speak loud! Happiness only eludes us as long as we let it.

Noticing the Signs

The signs are all around us and we never fully take notice of them. Actually, I think we only notice the bad signs, because we are so programmed to gear our thoughts toward negativity.

Our job is to notice the signs, both good and bad.

Our goal do our best to turn the bad signs into positive situations.

Our self love helps us begin to notice the good signs, or count our blessings, as so many say, and begin to manifest the truth of what we need to exist, and it is different for everyone.

My job is not to point out the good signs to you, if I did that, or more to the point, when I have to do that, you learn nothing.

Notice the Signs in your life and use this advice to turn things around for the better, by investing in the most important person you know, yourself.

Turmeric Sweet Potato Hummus



Turmeric is bright yellow due to the high levels of curcuminiods, which also gives turmeric its many health benefits.

This week’s Blog in the June Phytonutrients Series, Turmeric. Turmeric has been a staple in my kitchen for years. Mostly associated with your favorite Curry Dish, this ancient spice is part of the ginger family, known as curcuma longa. Turmeric is used as both a nutritional supplement and as a dye for cloth. Turmeric has been used in India and Asia for centuries. In more modern foods it is a main ingredient in yellow ballpark mustard.

In Ayurveda, Turmeric is one of the all important spices for Optimal Health. Turmeric is the spice used to help with digestion, liver function, blood circulation and as a topical treatment for wounds.

This week, I thought I would share my version of a sweet potato and turmeric hummus. The original recipe called for fresh garlic, which I felt would be too overwhelming, so I changed it to garlic powder. I think this helped to focus the flavor in the main place, on the delicate sweetness of the sweet potato and the earthiness of the turmeric. I’ve added safflower oil as an ingredient to the recipe to tie two phytonutrients into one dish. Once you learn the benefits of one phytonutrient, and then another; you can find ways to blend them into your foods to add a boost to your optimal health.


Sweet Potato Turmeric Hummus
Cook Time: 20 minutes to 1 hour

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 8-10 people
51 calories per serving


  • 1 small sweet potato, baked
  • 1 can white beans, rinsed
  • 1 tbsp tahini
  • 2 tbsp safflower oil
  • 2 tsp pink salt
  • 1.4 cup water
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp turmeric


  1. Bake or microwave your sweet potato. Slice open and allow to cool.
  2. Mix beans in food processor with salt, safflower oil, and tahini. Blend until smooth.
  3. Add spices, ½ the sweet potato and a few drops of water. Blend slowly and use spatula to scrape the edges of the food processor.
  4. Add second half of sweet potato and pulse, slowly adding more water as needed.
  5. Place in storage container and chill for 4 hours or more.
  6. Serve Chilled, Drizzled with Olive Oil and a topping of choice (optional), with pita, veggies or tortilla chips.

Open Play© is a program designed to let children learn the aerial silks and hammocks in their own time, no pressure. Here they are taught basic form and wraps and safety. They are able to take a move as quickly or slowly as they please.

With focus on injury prevention, alignment, and self care, this program will build a solid foundation for a continued practice in the Aerial Arts, Dance and Sports.

Originating from Southern China,  Safflower Oil was considered an essential product, that was used medicinally as well as a dye. Safflower is one of humanity’s oldest crops, and dye’s made from Safflower have been found in King Tut’s Tomb. Today we cultivate the oils for its healing properties.

Red Reishi Mushroom Powder



Red Reishi Mushrooms are a phytonutrient:

For thousands of years many Asian cultures have enjoyed the benefits of Red Reishi Mushroom Powder. Also known in China as  Ling-hzi Mushroom, this particular variety is consumed for its medicinal and pharmaceutical properties, and due to it’s very bitter taste, it is  not eaten on it’s own, but is a great addition to your everyday foods. *I add ½ tsp to my morning coffee.

Spiders – This arachnid invokes many feelings once it is gazed upon, including  fear, disgust and hatred. In reality, the Spider is the most patient and longsuffering of all the Spirit Animals, as they carefully weave their web for you, creating a space where you can restore your spirit. The Spider is a gentle reminder of your power within your own life, and that it is now time to weave your dreams into reality. The Spider is there to remind you that you create your own destiny, and no one but you creates, and keeps their own destiny on track. Invoke the Spider when you need balance.

In Italian Folklore, the Spider is a creature that would usually bite a woman, who would fall into a trance, called tarantism. The tarantula bite became associated with it and was said to have caused the trance like state. The only way to get her out of the trance was to dance rhythmically in circles around her until she was free of the spider bite effects. This Dance is called the Tarantella.

*on a personal note, I find it hilarious that this dance is done at Italian Weddings, after the ceremony.

Another Italian Folklore about the Spider, is that they bring about an increase in money. My cousin told me the tale, after I had posted a picture of a giant spider on Instagram, with the caption saying something like, “spiders always find me.”

My entire life was spent afraid of spiders, but now knowing their energy, and qualities, I’ll look at them much differently, and notice the signs they bring me.

Spider as a Totem Animal

With the Spider as your Totem Animal, you belong to a group who makes and keeps their own destiny. If the Spider comes up in your reading, it it telling you that you are a Wild Child, who’s inner voice is guiding you toward your divine life’s purpose, and not to let go of the Spider Energy, as you embark upon your journey.

Neith is also the Mother of the Sun God Ra, whom was the first God to be worshiped in a monotheistic manner by order of Akhenaten, father of Tutankhamun. King Tut as he is known historically, changed the worship back to Polytheism, when he took the throne in 1333 BC. Neith is known as the Virgin Mother of the world, a form of Isis, she is also the Mother of Horus, Isis and Osiris. It is said she is a protector of male energies and has taken on male forms from time to time.

“Neith never engaged in any kind of sexual union; that is, she was eternally a virgin. Yet, as the Primordial Being, she was also generative. Thus, in Neith we have one of the earliest appearances of the archetype of the Virgin Mother, the Holy Parthenos, in her original, unadulterated form.”


Spider Woman – Thinking

Native American Goddess, The Spider Woman (Teotihuacan) is the great “Thought Woman.” She created the Universe by spinning two threads, one North to South and one East to West.  She destroyed and rewove her web numerous times, saving only the enlightened and wise. Spider Woman is master of thought manifesting into matter. She wove the Dreamcatcher to catch only good thoughts and steer night terrors away. Spider Woman is here to give you counsel to reconnect to your reality. You have many paths in your life, focus on what you do not want and let go. Focus on what you do not want  as you are cosmically manifesting with your thoughts consciously and unconsciously. You are part of this expanding Universe.

Notice how many creation stories from ancient texts relate the Universe to being born of female energy. Our Spirit Animals reside in the same Realm as our Spirit Guides, and the all work together to guide us toward our personal spiritual enlightenment. Not only is the future female, but the distant past seemed to be female as well.


We are all familiar with the story of Spiderman, and Peter parker being bitten by the radioactive spider, thus giving him powers. The symbolism of the Spider fighting crime definitely has its roots in Spirit Animals and Ancient History. Legends of the Spider date back thousands of years, and thanks to Stan Lee we have a legendary Spirit Animal being portrayed in human form, to fix the world.

Up until a few years ago, I was suffering from arachnophobia. After hearing the Italian legend of the Spider, I began to look at them in a different light. The Spider is an incredible Spirit Animal to have on your side. So next time a spider crawls out of a crack in the wall, instead of trying to kill it, let the spider live, and connect with it, most likely he’s there with a message for you.

In Open Play, we teach a new move every few days, and give kids the chance to take their time learning. Kids begin to work together and learn from a certified instructor, and sometimes, each other.

Holistic & Modern Pain Management for an Aerialist Who Won’t Give Up

Movement Heals. That was one of the first things I learned while getting my Pilates certification. I was aware of this fact, subconsciously. I’ve always been active, mostly with dance, but as my body grew older and changed, it’s needs changed. The first change was not only from aging, but I completely stopped moving. That change was quick; putting on weight was quick and it felt unstoppable for a long time. Taking the weight off was a whole other challenge. I had a whole new set of bad habits to break to relearn my old ways, my original ways. but improved,without the eating disorder, I had gotten so far away from my true self, I thought I’d never recognize ME again.

I’m sure someone can relate. You can’t do the things you’ve always done with as much ease. Injuries happen without much effort. You get tired much quicker and try to get home earlier and earlier. This is simply aging, we slow down and that is our bodies’ gently helping us find a new balance. I had no idea why I was so tired, I mean extreme exhaustion. So to the doctor I went, for test after test of my hormones, but the symptoms felt very different from my lifelong battle from puberty.

I like many, suffer from a chronic illness, an invsible illness, Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS. This has had an adverse affect on my daily life, since puberty.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a health problem that affects one in 10 women of childbearing age. Women with PCOS have a hormonal imbalance and metabolism problems that may affect their overall health and appearance. PCOS is also a common and treatable cause of infertility.

Some of the symptoms of PCOS include:

  • Irregular menstrual cycle. Women with PCOS may miss periods or have fewer periods (fewer than eight in a year). Or, their periods may come every 21 days or more often. Some women with PCOS stop having menstrual periods.
  • Too much hair on the face, chin, or parts of the body where men usually have hair. This is called “hirsutism.” Hirsutism affects up to 70% of women with PCOS.3
  • Acne on the face, chest, and upper back
  • Thinning hair or hair loss on the scalp; male-pattern baldness
  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
  • Darkening of skin, particularly along neck creases, in the groin, and underneath breasts
  • Skin tags, which are small excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area

Everything I felt, was completely different from the symptoms I was used to with PCOS. Then came the joint pain. This was terrible. I couldn’t work out, standing was difficult, and it began to affect daily routines, eating and sleep habits. I couldn’t get enough rest. I tried all of these Holistic Treatments, and they do help, but I needed a diagnosis.

It took months of testing, retesting and just guess work as to how to treat myself. I used these Holistic Treatments below:

I don’t have a diagnosis yet, for my pain. I’m waiting and guessing ,always. I don’t like to take over the counter or prescription pain medications, for me, It masks the pain too much, and as someone with a very physical job, I will push too hard and hurt myself more.

I can’t sleep due to weird unexplained pains and I’m exhausted in the day. I feel like I’m accomplishing nothing.

I have a diagnosis. Fibromyalgia. I received the diagnosis in March of ’18. Just last week at my doctors appointment, I found out something new. The medicine, (I didn’t want to take) that I take, can cause dry mouth which means I drink more water, plus I sweat all day teaching yoga & aerial. I lost so much sodium, that my BP was 90/50. That day I was especially exhausted, but knew I needed to get up and go to this appointment. I’m glad I did. I have an answer as to what happens when I get that extreme fatigue, my blood pressure drops dramatically.

I suffer from anxiety, more so now because I have no idea how I’m going to feel moment to moment, and I feel my blood pressure raise. I go back to my studies of Yoga, and I maintain my blood pressure with Pranayama, (breath) used in my daily Sadhana, (practice). I use breath, and aromatherapy vapes to breath through pain, as well as panic because sometimes it’s tough to talk myself into leaving the house.

Having a place to go really helps. Having a plan in mind on days off, and seeing it through can change your mindset, which may help change the reactions the body has to pain.  I feel this does help me. The mental preparation just day to day activities require can become demanding, but breathing and movement help release some of the fibromyalgia pain.

Pain and Suffering in the physical body is a longer process than you realize, because all sickness begins in the ethereal body, according to Ayurveda, The Science of Life. Our Samskaras or ethereal pains that reside in our bodies caused by trauma, have a severe impact on our physical bodies. Treating the body as a whole, physically, mentally and spiritually has worked wonders for me. My mind feels stronger. I wake up earlier, I’m more productive, and I am taking care of my needs first. This thought process, this ritual of self care, has changed my life for the better.

I am taking meds to cut nerve pain and help me sleep, (low MG), and only at night.
